What We Do

The Blockchain Association of Canada goal is to encourage the responsible adoption of the blockchain technology by the industry and the government across Canada as a means to create innovation in service of all sectors of the economy. We do create that innovation through different channels and platforms:

What is Blockchain?

For those who are new to the blockchain world, it might seem like a complicated thing but it can be simplified. The explanation of what is blockchain is literally in the word blockchain. You have the word “Block” which is standing for the digital information or the “Block”. The “Block” of the Blockchain are digital piece of information that are usually divided in 3 distinct parts:

  1. In the “Blocks”, you can find information on transactions like for example the Day, the amount paid and the time of that transaction. For example, if you buy something online on some platforms, the block will keep all the information on that transaction to be used in the future.
  2. The “Block” will keep information about the two parties (or more) involved in the transaction. For example, if you buy something online, the “Block” will keep your digital signature and the one from the seller. Your actual name and the actual name of the seller is not used, your digital signature will most likely be your username on the platform that you used.
  3. The “Block” will store information about themselves to differentiate them from any other “Block”. The code that they use to create an identity for each “Block” is called a “Hash”. For example, if you buy something online and once it is paid for, you decide to buy another item. These two blocks will look alike since they are from the same website, same users and same time but they will be able to be differentiate through the “hash”.

In those examples, we were talking about a single purchase online but the reality is different. A “Block” of a Blockchain is able to store up to 1MB of data which, depending of course of the size of the transaction, could be up to a few thousand transactions in one single Block.

Then you have the word “Chain” which is the public database where the information is stored. The “Chain” is basically the link that holds all the “Blocks” together.

The primary objective of our Cryptocurrency association of Canada is to uplift the Blockchain ecosystem and community and to address the critical skills gap in Canada with respect to the Blockchain technology. The Blockchain Association of Canada aims to educate, develop and empower the Blockchain community of Canada and connect with both global leaders and best practice.
